Module Registration Period
3 Aug to 14 Aug 09: Registration / Add Module
For Level 5000/6000 modules offered by Science, students are required to register online. (including cross department modules)
EXCEPTION : Statistics students are required to seek Statistics Department's approval for cross department modules. Statistics students are required to submit the Module Registration Form to the Statistics department.
- For Level 4000 and below modules offered by Science, students are required to submit the Module Registration Form to their home department by 14 Aug 09
- For modules offered by another faculty, students are required to submit the Module Registration Form to their home department by 14 Aug 09.
12 Jan to 23 Jan 09: Drop Module without Penalty
- For Level 5000/6000 modules offered by Science, students are required to drop the module online from 3 Aug to 14 Aug 09. From 15 Aug to 21 Aug, students are required to use the Module Drop Form.
- For Level 4000 and below modules offered by Science, students are required to use the Module Drop Form.
- For Cross Faculty modules, students are required to use the Module Drop Form
24 Aug to 27 Sept 09: Drop Module with "W" Grade
- Please use the Module Drop Form for all modules that you wish to drop.
'W' grade is not a fail grade, it is an indication that you have dropped your module after choosing it.
28 Sept 09 Onwards : Drop Module with "F" Grade
- Please use the Module Drop Form for all modules that you wish to drop.
You will receive a Fail Grade for the module that you dropped.

It is the responsibility of the student to ensure that he/she is not registered for modules with clashes in class timetable or examination table. If you need any assistance regarding time table or module details, please refer to your department.

PhD Qualifying Examinations
(QE)
PhD candidates are still required to sit for the PhD Qualifying Examination (QE) – 2 written and 1 oral examination. The QE should be taken before the end of the fourth semester from the time of admission. A second attempt may be taken no later than six months after the first, failed attempt. This applies to both full-time and part-time PhD candidates. Candidates who fail their PhD QE will graduate with a Master of Science.
Written Exam
- Based on 2 modules: ST5214 Advanced Probability Theory and ST5215 Advanced Statistical Theory.
Oral Exam - Students are required to present their research proposal to an oral panel committee.
Note: Students can only take the oral exam after they have taken and passed the written examinations.
The QE is held twice a year – first or second week of each semester ie. in January and August. Students who wish to take the QE must email to Ms Su Kyi Win at least 1 month before the semester. The student must be prepared to sit for the QE in the same semester that he/she has informed the department.
